Washington Post Live To Host D.C. Mayoral Debate at the Newseum
Washington Post Live, the conference division of The Washington Post, will host a lively debate between the leading candidates for mayor of the District in partnership with the Newseum, NBC4 and WAMU 88.5. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 1, at 12pm in the Newseum’s Walter and Leonore Annenberg Theater.
“With the combined power of The Washington Post’s local reporting team, as showcased every day at PostLocal.com, and Washington Post Live, this debate will not only cover the tough issues voters care about, but will be made available to the widest number of local voters possible by streaming live on washingtonpost.com and being broadcast later by NBC4 on television and WAMU 88.5 on the radio,” said Raju Narisetti, Managing Editor, The Washington Post.
Eugene Robinson, Columnist and Associate Editor of The Washington Post, will moderate the discussion. Washington Post Reporter Nikita Stewart, NBC4 Reporter Tom Sherwood and WAMU 88.5 Reporter Patrick Madden will ask questions about major election issues facing the District including the economy, education, D.C. statehood, and public safety.
Both Mayor Adrian Fenty and D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray have committed to participate in the debate and will have a chance to present their views on the issues. They will also be given an opportunity to directly ask questions of each other and take questions from the audience. Questions for the candidates can be submitted by visiting www.washingtonpostlive.com or upon arrival at the Newseum.
The 60-minute debate will be streamed live on washingtonpost.com and will be broadcast on WAMU 88.5 later that day and on NBC4 September 2 at 12pm.
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets must be obtained in advance and are available by registering online at www.washingtonpostlive.com. Seating availability is limited.
