South Dakota School of Mines to Hold Snowfall Contest
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is accepting predications for the annual First Snow of the Season Contest. Participants, who must live within a 100-mile radius of Rapid City, need to send the date and exact time the first inch of snow will be measured after Oct. 1, 2010 at the National Weather Service office in Rapid City.
Submissions will be divided into two age brackets: those under 18 and those 18 and older. The entry in each bracket with the time and date closest to the observed time and date will win a $25 gift card. In the event of a tie on the correct date and time within an age bracket, the winner will be determined by a drawing.
To enter, send your name, address, phone number, and the date and exact time (hour, including a.m. or p.m., and minutes) you think the first inch of snow will be measured, to snowcontest@sdsmt.edu or to Snow Contest, c/o Department of Atmospheric Sciences, SDSM&T, 501 East Saint Joseph Street, Rapid City, S.D. 57701.
E-mail entries need to be received by 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30; mailed entries must be postmarked no later than Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010.
