			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, Austin&#8217;s own Capitol Area Council is hosting ScoutJam 2010. ScoutJam 2010, an all day event to be held October 9th at the Travis County Exposition Center, is an opportunity for families to enjoy a variety of adventures together while learning about the history and current programs offered by the Boy Scouts&#8217; local Council. ScoutJam 2010 is open to the public, and all Central Texas families, as well as Scout Alumni and community leaders, are invited to attend. </p>
<p>A low-cost and family-friendly alternative to the concurrent Austin City Limits Festival, ScoutJam is an adventurous wonderland of outdoor activities and captivating learning opportunities for every parent and child. Activities will include outdoor activities such as fishing, mountain boarding, archery, and water sports. Indoor activities, including guitar lessons, food tastings, sumo wrestling, bungee runs and chemistry lab experiments, are sure to elicit wide-eyed exclamations of joy as well. Meanwhile a rock concert, wildlife exhibits, aviation technology displays and historical re-enactments are sure to educate and inspire through a fun and multi-sensory approach to teaching. </p>
<p>The event is the Capitol Area Council&#8217;s largest yet, and is intended to grow community awareness about the Boy Scouts of America programs offered locally. These include Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and Venturing. Sea Scouts and Venturing are unique in that they are available to young women and men between the ages of 14 and 20. Current Scouts in attendance of ScoutJam will also have the chance to earn activity badges, and Eagle Scouts will gather from all over the world to celebrate their common bond. </p>
<p>Event sponsors include the Academy Sports and Outdoors, American Chemistry Society, AMS Pictures, A+ Federal Credit Union, AT&#038;T, Austin Toros, Cerqa, Covert Chevrolet, Dandy Idea, Gibson/Epiphone Guitar, HEB, REI, Safe Kids Austin and Whole Earth Provision Company. Of these sponsors, the Toros, as well as Gibson and Epiphone Guitars will be actively participating in basketball throws and music lessons for the youngsters. Covert Chevrolet will be displaying electric and hybrid cars in a forum about alternative transportation technologies.</p>
<p>&#8220;For the past 100 years, Boy Scouts of America has helped young boys grow into great men,&#8221; stated Charles Mead, the Council&#8217;s Director of Public Relations, while explaining the significance of this event. &#8220;Now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to make an impact on our community by helping kids from all walks of life gain confidence and finish school, allowing them to develop into successful adults.&#8221; To the Boy Scouts, celebrating the past is about making a real difference for the future of our country by creating opportunity for all of our nation&#8217;s youth. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The nation’s largest film festival celebrating the creative spirit behind some of the world’s most remarkable architecture and design will premiere at New York City’s celebrated Tribeca Cinemas from October 14 &#8211; 17, 2010.</p>
<p>“While such festivals are fairly common in Europe,” explained Kyle Bergman, architect and festival co-director along with Laura Cardello, “this will be the first of its kind in the U.S. The four-day festival with over 30 films should appeal not just to architects and others in the design field, but to design enthusiasts, as well.”</p>
<p>The festival’s line-up runs the gamut from feature-length films to seldom-screened documentaries and prize-winning but often overlooked gem-like shorts. They profile visionary architects past and present probe topical issues about urbanism and sustainability, and showcase iconic buildings and products.</p>
<p>The film roster includes a fascinating new documentary about Ant Farm, the renegade, mordantly funny, deeply subversive 1970s architecture collective best known for its iconic land-art piece, Cadillac Ranch.</p>
<p>Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio, another documentary offering, chronicles the late American artist, architect, educator, and founder of one of the most prolific, inspirational design-build outreach programs ever established.</p>
<p>Also screened will be a new film, Contemporary Days, about Robin and Lucienne Day, described as the Charles and Ray Eames of England. This couple transformed British design after World War II with striking furniture and textiles.</p>
<p>“We aim to give audiences a look at the inner workings of the design process, an up-close-and-personal view of how architects and designers think, work, and create,” Bergman elaborated. “We’re including conversations with several of the filmmakers, along with prominent architects and noted designers. We’re thrilled by the level of interest and participation.”</p>
<p>The full listing of films and film programs will be announced mid-September on www.adfilmfest.com. Tickets will be available on the Festival website beginning September 27, 2010.</p>
<p>Admission to the films is $12, $10 for AIA members. The festival bar/lounge will be open to the public for the entire event.</p>

<p>From Northern New Jersey: Garden State Parkway South to Exit 89. At the end of the exit ramp, bear right towards Brick and Lakewood. Make a left onto Cedar Bridge Avenue (Rte. 528 W). Proceed 1.4 miles through three traffic lights to FirstEnergy Park entrance.</p>
<p>From Southern New Jersey: Garden State Parkway North to Exit 90, which puts you onto Chambers Bridge Road. Make a U-turn at the first traffic light (loop around and make a left back on to Chambers Bridge Road heading west). Go under the Parkway. <p>Hudson Valley Reggae Fest (Eco &#038; World Music) is a day-long, family-oriented “Go-Green” event featuring many musical talents from many different cultures. The International talent onstage will include Jamaica’s No. 1 Dub poet, Mutabaruka; New England’s premier Reggae band, Soul Shot; Haiti’s own popular performer, Freedom; Bonga and the Vodou Drums of Haiti; Cuban artist David Sandoval’s band Delixilo; International Reggae artist Living Truth; musical ensemble, One World Tribe; master African drummer/teacher, Kofi Donkor and Sankofa and dancers; Singer/songwriter Randy Niles; Hakum who will be speaking to the realities of the world, and Gigi and The Lend Me a Hand Band a 2008 Finalists Children&#8217;s Music Web Awards for Best Album and Best Song.</p>
<p>They are also proud to have as a partner this year the well known organization Riverkeeper; whose dual mission is to protect the ecological integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries and to safeguard drinking water for New York City and the lower Hudson Valley. For more than 40 years, Riverkeeper has been the leading clean water advocate. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is one of Riverkeeper’s leaders, along with executive director Paul Gallay, who will be speaking at the festival.</p>
<p>Greenergy Productions, LLC promotes environmental responsibility through music, hands –on educational programs and support for grass root community action. It aims to create a network of “green ambassadors” through outreach to universities, junior and high schools, churches, community organizations and early childhood education.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The American Red Cross is marking the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a dinner honoring first responders, commemorative events in Mississippi and a canvassing event in which volunteers will distribute information and resources to help be better prepared for future disasters.</p>
<p>When hundreds of thousands of people needed help in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and two other major hurricanes that followed in the 2005 hurricane season, many individuals, foundations and corporations stepped forward to help. This incredible generosity &#8211; as well as the relief efforts of the Red Cross &#8211; is detailed in &#8220;Bringing Help, Bringing Hope&#8221;an American Red Cross report covering the response to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma and the ensuing years of recovery for the survivors.</p>
<p>&#8220;Five years ago, the American public responded to Katrina with unprecedented generosity&#8221;said Russ Paulsen, executive director of the Hurricane Recovery Program at the Red Cross. &#8220;Looking back, I think they can be proud of what their contributions accomplished&#8221;</p>
<p>The American Red Cross will be participating in events across the Gulf Coast over the next several days to commemorate the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.</p>
<p>* The Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a Day of Service Readiness Canvassing Event on Saturday, August 28. American Red Cross and Target volunteers will team up to distribute bags with information and resources on preparedness and recovery to homes in neighborhoods heavily impacted by disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and home fires. A similar Day of Service project will also take place in New York City.</p>
<p>* The Southeast Louisiana Chapter later will host &#8220;Heroes of the Storm&#8221; a fundraising gala on Saturday, August 28, that will honor first responders and pay special tribute to Gen. Russel Honoré, who mobilized the response. American Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern will introduce Honoré and present him with a special gift. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, National Guard, employees at Lockheed Martin, Entergy, local police and fire departments, and Red Cross volunteers from across the region will also be recognized.</p>
<p>* The South Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross participated in the August 21st Tears to Cheers Music Festival. The event, held in Biloxi, kicked off a weeklong series of Phenomenal People Celebration of Healing events in observance of the five-year anniversary. All proceeds collected by the vendors at the week of events will go to support the American Red Cross, Hope CDA and other area nonprofit organizations.</p>
<p>* The South Mississippi Chapter will be recognized for their achievements on Sunday, August 29, at a reception hosted by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour in Gulfport. Later that evening, the Governor and First Lady will host the Governor’s Cup in Biloxi. The American Red Cross is one of the recipients, along with several other agencies. These awards, one of the highest given by the Governor, are given to honor businesses for their contributions during the past calendar year, raise general awareness about their successful efforts, and showcase their results.</p>
<p>Donors gave the organization a total of $2.2 billion for people affected by the storms, which helped the Red Cross provide:</p>
<p>* Shelter for survivors across 31 states and the District of Columbia<br />
* Hot meals and snacks<br />
* Financial assistance for 1.4 million families to purchase groceries, clothing, diapers and other basic needs; and money for people to return home, make home repairs and get back to work<br />
* Physical and mental health services to help them cope with stress and ease the trauma<br />
* Tools to help survivors chart a path to recovery<br />
* Disaster preparedness training so people know the steps to take to protect themselves and their families</p>
<p>&#8220;The hurricanes of 2005 tested us all&#8221;said Paulsen. &#8220;Although we’re on better footing than we were five years ago, every individual and community has to be on board in order for our country to be more disaster-ready. There is much more that we as a nation can do. Everyone—government, businesses, non-profits and the faith community—needs to work together to have better prepared communities&#8221;<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The 12th Annual Wine Celebration benefitting The V Foundation took place August 6&#038;7 in Napa Valley, raising $2.2 million for cancer research. The event, a signature fundraiser for sportscaster/coach Jim Valvano&#8217;s eponymous foundation, has raised more than $35 million since 1998.</p>
<p>Guests assembled in Napa Valley to enjoy private dinners and receptions, an update on research advances from the Foundation&#8217;s Scientific Advisory Board, and a gala dinner auction at Nickel &#038; Nickel Winery. Foundation and Wine Celebration Chairman Bob Lloyd announced that The Foundation had reached a $100 million fundraising goal, and Duke Legend Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski joined Lloyd onstage alongside Nick Valvano, Jimmy V&#8217;s brother, to pledge his support in raising another $100 million. &#8220;Give till it hurts, you can afford it,&#8221; teased Krzyzewski, who offered up a humorous and heartfelt keynote speech to kick things off. Local vintner, Chicago-area socialite and cancer survivor Teri Kuhn spearheaded an impassioned Fund-A-Need to benefit Leukemia research, and Cyril and Blakesley Chappellet were honored with a Vintner Grant benefitting Melanoma research.</p>
<p>The evening was one of extraordinary generosity, with the largest and most diverse catalog yet assembled. &#8220;As our cause catches on donations have exceeded our wildest dreams,&#8221; notes Julie Constantin, the Marin-based Venture Capitalist who helped create the Wine Celebration 12 years ago. Screaming Eagle founder Jean Phillips donated a 3-liter in honor of Kuhn; Tickets to events such as the ESPYs, the Superbowl, and courtside seats at the Duke vs. UNC basketball game were highlights and V supporters including Steve Bornstein (President, NFL Network), Cheech Marin, Donna Orender (President, WNBA) and Robin Roberts (Anchor,GMA/ABC) were spotted in the crowd.</p>
<p>&#8220;Cancer touches everyone, and everyone has the power to do something about it. This group is a great example of that &#8212; An organized team is a really powerful thing. I think we’re proving that, and we&#8217;ll keep doing it until we&#8217;ve got a cure,&#8221; says Lloyd.</p>

<p>A top vote getter in the festival&#8217;s &#8220;Toast of the Coast Play-in Contest,&#8221; Khaled M has been handpicked along with 9 other acts to battle it out in a private show. Those chosen to the Top 3 will receive a spot in the official North Coast Lineup which is expected to draw 40,000 fans in early September.</p>
<p>Most call it an opportunity of a lifetime, but it hasn&#8217;t happened just by chance.<br />
Khaled states, &#8220;My fans are the true soldiers, but while I&#8217;m excited about all of the votes, I just want a chance to perform. Hopefully my music can speak for itself.&#8221; </p>
<p>The critics will be watching closely.</p>
<p>Fans will need to come out in droves not only to cheer Khaled on, but to show he has a loyal fan base like the voting suggested.<br />
The &#8220;Toast of the Coast&#8221; play-in show will be held at The Tonic Room in Chicago beginning at 8:00p.m. on Thursday August 26, 2010. </p>
<p>In its inaugural year, The North Coast Music Festival is a 3-day event held in Chicago&#8217;s Union Park on Labor Day Weekend. </p>
<p>Khaled M is a Chicago-based rapper that uses a rare combination of quick wit, substance and lyrical ability to attract sincere fans from all corners of the globe.</p>

The training will consist of three separate identical sessions to take place during the day prior to the SuperMeet, which will be the largest gathering of Final Cut Pro, Avid and Adobe editors, DSLR filmmakers, digital media makers and Gurus during IBC2010. </p>
<p>Apple Certified Master Trainer Simon Walker will demonstrate how to quickly stylize shots, store favorite looks and tools, remove color casts and make primary and secondary corrections. Simon will also show how to use power masks and keyers to isolate areas, boost visual sharpness, smooth skin and repair cosmetic blemishes as well as adding instant Hollywood looks to footage whilst maintaining accurate flesh tones. All this without having to send footage to another program for grading. And by staying within Final Cut Pro, editors can copy color grades to multiple clips, and still edit footage right up to delivery.</p>
<p>Simon will be demonstrating the new Magic Bullet Colorista II, Magic Bullet Grinder, Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Mojo, and will reveal how editors can work with presets to create eye-popping grades in seconds. He&#8217;ll also be demonstrating DSLR workflows using Magic Bullet Grinder, which helps filmmakers get video footage out of their cameras and into their Final Cut Pro timeline fast, but at high quality and in edit friendly formats. He will also be showing a first look at Red Giant&#8217;s latest plug-in, which the company will be announcing at IBC. Attendees to each session receive free presets for Magic Bullet Looks and a special IBC discount code for Red Giant plug-ins. </p>

<p>Editors and filmmakers who have interest in using the latest DSLRs for film making and learning the basics of color correction in Final Cut Pro.
