Calgary Food Bank: 2nd Annual Art for Food Group Show and Sale Starts Thursday, August 19

August 19, 2010 – 8:50 amNo Comment

The Herringer Kiss Gallery will kick off its second annual Art for Food Group Show and Sale Thursday night with an opening reception featuring art, music and refreshments, to help feed hungry Calgarians.

The reception is open to the public from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, and will give attendees the chance to view some of the artwork featured in the show and sale. The Herringer Kiss Gallery will donate proceeds to the Calgary Food Bank towards the purchase of emergency food hampers for Calgary families in need. The proceeds of this show will go towards helping keep Calgary families fed and supporting a community effort to improve the quality of life of those less fortunate.

Throughout the show, every $1,000 worth of art sold will supply a family of four with the required food necessities for one week. The Art for Food Group Show and Sale runs from August 19 until September 11, 2010. The Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information on the group show and sale, or the artists represented please visit www.herringerkissgallery.com.

The Food Bank is experiencing its largest need for emergency food hampers in nearly 10 years. This year, more than 140,000 Calgarians will come to us for emergency food hampers. The majority of these people continue to be the working poor. 41% of them are children.
