Owens Harkey & Associates Celebrating 50 Years of Business in Phoenix

Owens & Associates, now Owens Harkey & Associates, has been a fixture on the business landscape for five decades, making it perhaps the oldest marketing, advertising and public relations firm in the Southwest. The agency began unexpectedly in January 1960 when Bill Owens found himself without a job when the agency he worked at unexpectedly shut its doors. Not one to hesitate, Bill quickly approached the remaining accounts and opened his doors under a week later. Under his leadership, the agency quickly grew into a powerhouse, with agencies in Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque and Las Vegas.
When Bill was working laying track in the bottom of the pit of the copper mine in Ajo, Ariz., he knew things would get better, but he couldn’t have predicted that he would start an advertising legacy that would last half a century, and be poised to last much, much longer. With his son Matthew Owens now at the helm, and a young protégé, Scott Harkey as a partner in the firm, Owens Harkey & Associates is poised for a major resurgence. Even in the dismal economy the company is seeing exceptional growth, and so are their clients.
