International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis to Host 22nd Congress in Boston
Published June 7th, 2009
The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) will host one of the world’s most significant clinical and basic scientific meetings on thrombosis, haemostasis, and vascular biology when it convenes its XXII Congress July 11-16. The ISTH meeting and exhibition is held every two years, and the 2009 event will be staged at the state-of-the-art Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Returning and new attendees to the ISTH biennial Congress will benefit from an education program to be run in conjunction with the meeting of the Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) of the ISTH, which occurs on July 11–12, just prior to the start of the Congress itself.
According to Bruce Furie, MD, and Barbara C. Furie, PhD, presidents of the XXII Congress of the ISTH, the educational offerings will provide attendees with insight into topics such as haemostasis and malignancy, platelet immunology, variables in cardiovascular disease, vascular biology and women’s health issues involving thrombosis and haemostasis.
In addition, a Presidential Plenary Abstract Symposia will highlight new, provocative and cutting-edge research in the fields of platelet production, platelet integrin activation, the role of factor XI in haemostasis, the role of thrombomodulin in complement regulation, identification of factor IX mutations as well as thrombophilias elucidated by genome-wide association studies.
These programs are in addition to a comprehensive roster of Plenary, State of the Art Symposia, and Oral Communications sessions, plus Abstract Symposia that will feature a presentation by a noted expert in the field followed by four of the top abstracts in related areas. A special session presenting Late Breaking Clinical Trials Abstracts is also scheduled.
ISTH 2009’s scientific program has been reviewed by the American Medical Association and approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. CME accreditation is valid from July 13 – July 16 for the Congress’ scientific program only.
The exhibition, to run July 13 through 16, will feature displays of international organizations, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, publishers and scientific societies. Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. July 13-15. The exhibit closes at 4 p.m., July 16.
